About the Program

In 2020, Samvid Ventures launched Samvid Young Leaders, a scholarship awarded to high achieving, college-bound young women in Detroit who face significant financial challenges. The values we look for in young leaders are ambition, resourcefulness, perseverance, collaboration, service, and an interest in financial literacy.

Program Details

  • Overview
    • Up to $10,000 annually for non-tuition expenses for up to four years
    • Coaching and mentoring in financial literacy
    • Supportive cohort model with connection to peer leaders
  • Eligibility Requirements
    • Student must register for and take advantage of the Detroit Promise
    • Student must be a city of Detroit resident for all four years of high school
    • Student must attend all four years and graduate from a Detroit high school
    • Student must have minimum test score of 21 on ACT or 1060 on SAT (this requirement is waived for the class of 2022)
    • Student must identify as female
    • Student must have an average GPA of 3.50+ (at time of application and upon graduation)
    • Student must be eligible for the full or partial Pell Grant
    • Student must be accepted into a 4-year Michigan-based university that participates in the Detroit Promise
  • Continued Eligibility Requirements
    • Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester
    • Student must maintain full-time student status
    • Student must have consistent attendance to workshops and coaching opportunities
    • Student must complete an annual reflection report
  • Application Timeline
    • February 1st – Application opens
    • February 3rd – Applicant Information Session
    • February 17th – Applicant Information Session
    • March 3rd – Applicant Information Session
    • March 11th – Application closes
    • March 29th – Finalists announced
    • April 1st – 2nd – Interviews conducted
    • April 6th – Decisions shared with applicants
